Ari Marcopoulos, Still From Detroit, 2009

I chose this image by Ari Marcopoulos because it is very interesting to me. After reading about him and his work, he likes to document American life (he is from Holland) in an untraditional way. He said he likes to show rebellious skaters and snowboarders and show underground musicians. He photographs the rebellious youth.

Kate Gilmore, Still From Standing Here, 2010

I chose this image from Kate Gilmore because it is a loaded image. In the reading about her, it says she does work showing female struggle and displacement. In this work, she is wearing very feminine clothing (a dress, heels, ect.) and she is kicking and punching holes in the sheet rock and climbing it.

Tam Tran, Battle Cry, 2008

The composition is what caught my eye about this work. In this work, Tran photographed her nephew acting as a super hero, acting out childhood fantasies. I found this interesting because childhood is an important time in our creativity, and she captures it in this series.

:::my Images:::

i chose this image of mine because i really like architecture. I love how the light is creating contrast in the beams and i like the pattern created from this.

This is am image from my roadtrip. I love it because of the silhouette of my friend Zach is in contrast to the beautiful blue skies. This was my view for 15 hours, but somehow, this image makes my view seem better than i thought it was.

This image is, you guessed it, from my roadtrip as well. I really am pleased with this image because it captured an excited moment in time. This trip was quite the experience for me because i had never been to anything like it before, and it was great to capture the people there, like this one of my boyfriend, in that one moment of utter excitement.

Cindy Sherman
Untitled Film Still #3

I chose this image because like in my work, Sherman always has a meaning for her images. While I don't always have feminist ideals behind my work like Sherman, I do make sure that the meanings are important to me like politics, social concerns, and economic issues.

IMAGES FROM THE ARCHIVES OF ROBERT VENTURI AND DENISE SCOTT BROWN

I picked this image from MOCA because of my recent road trip project. This image looks like a shot that i would have taken from my last project.

Edward Ruscha, Phillips 66, Flagstaff, Arizona, 1962, from Twentysix Gasoline Stations, 1963.

Again i chose this image because it relates to my last project. Not only is it a gas station, but I actually passed it in Arizona on my road trip. This image also created controversy when photography was becoming an artform. People thought these were documentary and shouldn't be classified as photography. In my work i like creating controversy as well.

:::my work:::

This is am image of mine that i wanted to make different from others like this. It is actually of my boyfriend, however i had him lay in a more feminine pose. Also to add another layer, i decieded to matte and frame this image backwards from the standard white matte black frame.

This image i took of a friend of mine downtown. I wanted her to be alone in the image to show that women are strong and independent unlike the ideas that are put into our heads of needing to be dependent on someone all the time.

This last image is one that is important to me. It shows a sense of journey to me and how hard the climb can be but that there is light at the top.

Marina Abramović. Portrait with Flowers

I chose this image from Moma's site. I picked it because i feel it relates to feminist theory where women are always seen as girly and doing things such as gardening. It is a stereotypical image of a woman.

Edward Hopper, Early sunday morning, 1930

I chose this image because i feel that it shows political theory. I get this because it is a row of shops, yet the street is empty, there are no people buying things at these stores, giving a feeling that economic times were tough.

Alan B. Stone
Untitled (rue de la Commune, 'Sailor's Club')

I chose this image for the same reason as the image above. It gives a sense of political/social/economic theory because it is a Street in the daytime and is completely void of people and movement.

:::MY IMAGES:::

I took this image on a rough day that i was having. When i realized that the light across the cement and bricks was interesting, i decided to photograph it. After looking back on it, it made me realize that i support myself and there is light where you least expect it.

I picked this image because i was out one day taking pictures of all the dead landscape. (i do this to remind myself of the beauty in things we don't expect) This image interested me because it was tall, dead grass right by the littered highway, yet it is a beautiful and sunny day.

This is another image i took on the same day as the first one. Because i was looking down so much from having a bad day, i saw shadows and compositions i wouldn't have seen otherwise. This is another reason that i try to remember that great things are everywhere if i remember to look for them.

klein_205.jpg

I chose this image from the Guggenheim in Bilbao. i am drawn to it because the texture the blue paint creates interests me.

This image is at MOCA. I find it very interesting because of the feeling it gives you with the red ominous sky and sharp lines from the stardust sign. Vegas is usually a place photographed in such a different way than this, and that is what interests me the most about it.

This image caught my attention right away. It is Bing's Eiffel Tower and it's at the International center of photography. I love this image because it gives such a classic feel, and it romanticizes the Eiffel Tower in an elegant and beautiful way.

I chose this image by Pae White because i love the lines created by the smoke. I think there is a lot of movement in the lines and i am really drawn to this.

9.charlesray_398.jpg

This image by Charles Ray interests me because the colors are great. They really grab my attention, and only after the colors settle then the complexity of the lines creating the flowers keep me interested.

54.-edgarcleijneellengallagher_596.jpg

This is by Edgar Cleijne and Ellen Gallagher. This image catches my attention with the bold lines and shapes and the limited, but bright colors used. I like the abstract-ness of it.

I chose this image of mine because i like the action and the fact that you can see a reflection in the glass.

I chose this image because i like the nostalgic feeling i get from looking at it. I like the angles that are created also.

This is Pae White. I really like this image because the lines created by the smoke are great, really interesting. I also like the fact that it's just black and white. I love the movement in this image.

This is an image of Albott's. It caught my interest because I really like the composition and high contrast. i also like the subject matter of a city store.

This is one of Ansel Adams photographs. Of course his amazing tonal rang strikes me as do all his photographs. i really like the strong light and how it is somehow calming.

This is Hine's Italians. This image caught my attention becuase it feels so personal. It is a raw image that really shows the emotions of these people and that is what stood out to me.

This is one of my dogs. i chose this image because she has a great look on her face that i think makes the image interestingly funny.

I really like this picture because the colors and lines are great and i like the texture that you can see in the wood.

I decided to choose this image because i think the lighting is great and i love the texture variations in it. I also like the composition and colors.
